The Northern Mountainous Region (NMR) of Vietnam is characterised by great physical, social and cultural diversity. It covers a large geographical area, is home to many ethnic minority populations, has an under-developed infrastructure with low levels of urbanisa-tion, and agricultural production plays a highly important role. Since the 1950s, Vi-etnam’s agricultural sector has had several ups and downs due to being significantly in-fluenced by shifting national policies.
This report reviews recent trends in agricultural innovation systems (AIS) and discusses the impact of a wide range of policies on the creation and diffusion of innovation in the agricultural and agrifood sector. It suggests a framework for analysing the role of governments in fostering increased innovation, with a view to helping to identify practical actions that governments could take to improve productivity growth, sustainable use of resources, and resilience to future market developments in national and global agriculture and agri-food systems.
Given the diversity and context-specificity of innovation systems approaches, in March 2007 the World Bank organized a workshop in which about 80 experts (representing donor agencies, development and related agencies, academia, and the World Bank) took stock of recent experiences with innovation systems in agriculture and reconsidered strategies for their future development. This paper summarizes the workshop findings and uses them to develop and discuss key issues in applying the innovation systems concept. National governments, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, have limited budgets and are forced to make difficult funding decisions regarding the provision of social services and the support of agricultural programs. These provisions can play a critical role in rural incomes and agricultural production but due to data constraints, the effects of different types of social services on agricultural productivity in this region have not been analyzed in detail.
This research aimed to figure out the attitude and readiness of agriculture extension officers in using the Information and Communication Technology. Data collection was done through a survey with total sample 60 respondents. Data gained were primary data from questionnaire filling by respondents who were all extension officers in Food Security and Extension Implementation Agency. Data analyses used in this research were reliability and validity analysis, Fishbein’s Attitude Model, and regression analysis which continued with F and t test.
En este trabajo se desarrolla la investigación como estudio de caso, con información generada por los productores asociados en Amigos de Ozolco, durante dos años de operación y acompañamiento. El estudio de caso permite medir y registrar la conducta de las personas involucradas en nuestra situación de estudio, con información verbal y datos obtenidos desde fuentes cualitativas y cuantitativas, primarias y secundarias; esto es, documentos, registros de archivos, entrevistas directas, observación directa, observación de los participantes e instalaciones y objetos físicos.

En Colombia, el desarrollo rural requiere de una institucionalidad que contribuya a cerrar la brecha urbano-rural, que cuente con los instrumentos de política necesarios para la inclusión productiva y la promoción de una asociatividad orientada a una ruralidad competitiva. Los 12 años de experiencia de la implementación del Proyecto de Apoyo para las Alianzas Productivas (PAAP) del Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (MADR) aportan lecciones en esta dirección.
Although Colombia has the potential to be a cocoa producer for fine flavor and high value markets, it is not greatly recognized as such. In spite of the government’s interest to position the country as a major specialty cocoa producer, no strategic actions have been taken to develop and strengthen this aspect of the value chain.
