This brief is part of the series, A Field Guide for Disaster Risk Reduction in Southern Africa: Key Practices for DRR Implementers, coordinated by the FAO Subregional Office for Disaster Risk Reduction/Management for Southern Africa. The brief provides practical guidelines on storage practices and methodologies to assist southern African farmers prone to natural hazards, mainly cyclones, droughts and floods.
Owing to its devices that are the ember furnace, the fat collection tray, the indirect smoke generator system and the hot air distributor, the FAO-Thiaroye processing technique (FTT-Thiaroye), focus of this methodological guide, strengthens the functions of existing improved smoking techniques in small-scale fisheries.
The study was undertaken by a panel of external experts. The study included a survey questionnaire to the CRPs about their planned use of metrics and indicators for CRP- and system-level IDOs, and a workshop with CRP members, selected partners, donors and other CGIAR stakeholders.
The capacity scoring questionnaire is an instrument that can be used when assessing the systems capacities of innovation partnerships or organizations in order to identify strengths and weaknesses and monitor change over time. It thus supports the design and implementation of successful capacity development interventions for agricultural innovation. This questionnaire has been developed in two versions (Version 1 and Version 2) and has been piloted in several countries in the context of the Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CDAIS).

The Excel workbook contains some preconfigured spreadsheets that can be used for entering data collected through the capacity scoring questionnaire (Version 1 and Version 2), which has been developed in the context of the the CDAIS project, and to perform some basic analysis as well as visualize the data.
This paper has been prepared by S. Mohan, Professor of Agricultural Entomology at the TamilNadu Agricultural University (Coimbatore, TamilNadu, India), as a success story that can be shared in Educational Programme for Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation. The document discusses technologies for timely detection of insects in the stored products and timely control measures.
