Le rapport est construit en trois parties : • la première partie traite de l’adaptation des agricultures familiales aux changements climatiques et des conditions de l’adaptation ; • la seconde partie aborde la place de l’adaptation des agricultures familiales dans les politiques publiques ; • la troisième partie propose un certain nombre de recommandations en vue d’une meilleure intégration de cette question dans les politiques publiques. Une présentation des trois études de cas-pays est par ailleurs proposée en annexe.
El informe está estructurado en tres partes:
• la primera parte trata de la adaptación de la agricultura familiar a los cambios climáticos y de las condiciones de la adaptación; • la segunda parte aborda el lugar que ocupa la adaptación de la agricultura familiar en las políticas públicas;
• la tercera parte propone algunas recomendaciones para una mejor integración de este tema en las políticas públicas.

The Feed the Future Asia Innovative Farmers Activity (AIFA) is a regional project transforming the lives of farmers by developing and supporting a regional technology ecosystem that fosters new technology, partnerships, and innovative practices in South and Southeast Asia with a focus on Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Nepal. The objective of this report is to identify and evaluate best practices in smallholder private irrigation in West Africa. The report is based on a comparative assessment of the smallholder private irrigation subsector in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, which included a literature review, field visits, and workshops at both national and regional levels. The task lists for the assessment is provided in annex one. This report first presents the main features of smallholder irrigation and the development projects that have promoted its use in West Africa in chapter two.

In the Office du Niger large rice farming irrigation scheme in Mali, water management has been a permanent source of tension between the smallholder tenants and the administration. The transfer of tertiary canal maintenance to the tenant farmers was expected to improve water management but, in practice, that rather led to deterioration.
