The project, funded by the European Union and IFAD and implemented by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR), targeted three countries – Ethiopia, Madagascar and Tanzania. Thw IFAD-funded Programme d'Appui au Développement Rural dans le Guéra (PADER-G) project was implemented with the main objective of supporting poor rural households and smallholder farmers in Guéra, Chad to improve their food security and livelihoods. One specific aim of PADER-G, designed to manage risks of food shortage, was to improve cereal storage among smallholder farmers through the construction of community cereal banks (banque de céréales).
En este libro se sintetiza la experiencia de la CEPAL en los procesos de diagnóstico y formulación de estrategias orientadas al fortalecimiento de ocho cadenas de valor rurales en México, varios países de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana. El apoyo a estas cadenas fue posible gracias al financiamiento del Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), en el marco del proyecto conjunto de la CEPAL y el FIDA denominado “Crecimiento inclusivo, política industrial rural y cadenas de valor participativas en América Latina y el Caribe”.

Este informe presenta la evaluación de los resultados del Proyecto de Fortalecimiento de los Mercados, Diversificación de los Ingresos y Mejoramiento de las Condiciones de Vida en la Sierra Sur (PDSS) en el Perú llevada a cabo por la Oficina de Evaluación Independiente (IOE) del FIDA en 2017. El PDSS fue implementado en el periodo 2005-2011. Antes de la fecha de cierre del proyecto, se decidió financiar un préstamo suplementario en el ámbito de la sierra sur peruana (2010-2015).
Este estudio de caso cuenta historias inspiradoras de cambio derivadas del proyecto propuesto por el acuerdo de colaboración entre el CIP y el FIDA y permitió recuperar 171 testimonios en los tres países, de los cuales los propios productores protagonistas priorizaron 24 casos que para ellos reflejaban mejor lo que había significado el proyecto. De estos 24 casos, se seleccionaron cinco historias, de las cuales tres son de Bolivia (sus historias recibieron puntajes más altos), seguidas de una de Perú y otra de Ecuador. Tres de ellas corresponden a mujeres y dos a varones.
