Voices of Change brings you stories that are representative of the wide range of Katalyst’s work across Bangladesh. The project uses the market development approach, which is an indirect way of working to change the existing market systems as a means to benefit the poor people. In these stories, the beneficiaries share with you the constraints they faced as well as the solutions they found to bring about radical changes in their lives.
The extensive case study on ‘Improving Public Agricultural Extension Services in Bangladesh Using the M4P Approach’ illustrates Katalyst project’s experience in terms of designing interventions in the Local Government Services (LGS) sector, from testing them in small scale towards scaling-up and the accompanying challenges. The case study shows how innovative public-private partnerships create a vast impact on the lives of poor farmers in Bangladesh.
The overall objective of the Comprehensive Assessment of the Agricultural Sector (CAAS) is to provide an evidence base to enable appropriate strategic policy responses by the Government of Liberia (GoL) and its development partners in order to maximize the contribution of the agriculture sector to the Government's overarching policy objectives. Given the strong relationship between growth in agricultural productivity and poverty reduction, future efforts in Liberia need to focus on productivity enhancing measures with a pro-poor focus that increase incomes.

As the world’s most youthful country, it sits on the cusp of being able to harness the youth dividend. Without a more broadly diversified economy, seizing the opportunities presented by Uganda’s youthful demographic will call for understanding both young people, and a focus on the aspects of agriculture that will need to grow and change to meet the challenge.

Si elle ne prend pas en compte le secteur de la transformation qui la connecte aux marchés, l’agriculture vivrière commerciale ne sera pas en mesure de relever les défis de sécurité et de souveraineté alimentaires des pays ouest-africains. Une étude de terrain portant sur les effets de l’application du second pilier de la PAC en France révèle un lien étroit entre de nouvelles formes juridiques d’exploitation et l’évolution du statut des femmes dans la profession agricole. En effet, après n’avoir longtemps été que des « épouses d’agriculteurs », celles-ci sont devenues « agricultrices » à part entière. L’analyse des entretiens réalisés dans six territoires ruraux représentatifs des enjeux nationaux montre que le développement de ces exploitations sociétaires (GAEC, EARL, CUMA) donne davantage de visibilité au travail féminin.

Neuf ans plus tard, dans ce numéro « genre et transformations de l’agriculture familiale », la revue entend croiser les dynamiques présentes dans ce type d’agriculture en abordant les rapports femmes-hommes, les relations de pouvoir et les changements sensibles dans les interactions sociales, culturelles et professionnelles entre femmes et hommes dans les exploitations agricoles familiales.
