Natural hazards have become more frequent and intense in the last few decades, increasing the often significant negative impacts on the gross domestic product of countries in southern Africa and undermining development efforts. Forecasts are negative as a result of climate change, which is increasingly linked to more frequent and severe weather patterns that are expected to have a dramatic impact on these countries‘ economies and environments.
Based on eleven case studies from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, this report describes farmer-led research findings and their dissemination, and analyzes available evidence on the impact of farmer-led approaches to agricultural research and development on rural livelihoods, local capacity to innovate and adapt, and influence on governmental institutions of agricultural research and development.
This facilitation guide was developed to support the training of scientists who are members of the CCAFS Working Group on impact pathways and M&E for results-based management. The group attended a highly participatory introductory training from 1-5th April 2014 in Segovia, Spain. The objectives of the workshop were: 1. This report presents the main results of the EU-funded IN-SIGHT project ‘Strengthening Innovation Processes for Growth and Development’. The authors sketched out a conceptual framework and knowledge base for a more effective European policy on innovation in agriculture and rural areas. Both conceptual framework and knowledge base are consistent with the new European agenda for agricultural and rural policy and sensitive to the diversity of the European agricultural and rural systems.
The Climate Change and Social Learning (CCSL) Initiative is a cross-organisation group working to build a body of evidence on how social learning methodologies and approaches contribute towards development targets. Together with a select number of participating initiatives from a variety of organisations, we are working towards establishing a common monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework for new projects and programmes using a social learning-oriented approach.
América Latina, el Caribe y el mundo enfrentan una crisis que incluye, entre otras, dos dimensiones fundamentales: el dramático deterioro ambiental y la profunda debacle alimentaria. Dicha crisis se caracteriza por el acaparamiento, concentración y extranjerización de las tierras de los campesinos, de los indígenas originarios y de los afrodescendientes solo comparable con la que se dio durante la Colonia.
En esta comunicación se argumenta en torno a las ventajas de contar con una “Educación Intercultural sobre el Cambio Climático” como vía para empoderar a las comunidades locales. Se propone una metodología para la recuperación y valoración del estado de vitalidad/erosión intergeneracional de los conocimientos tradicionales sobre el cambio climático.
