In order to realize the potential of agricultural innovation in family farming, national priorities of sustainably increasing food production and productivity, and reducing hunger and poverty, require rural knowledge institutions to be stronger and communication processes to be improved. This brief synthesizes the focus of FAO’s research and extension branch on transforming agricultural innovation systems of member countries.
Both women and indigenous peoples face key barriers that limit their capacity to access and benefit from development projects. In a country like Peru where women and indigenous peoples represent a large share of the rural poor, integrating proactive measures into project design is crucial to reach these populations. The Peru Agricultural Research and Extension Program (INCAGRO) gave great emphasis to designing financing instruments that will give equitable opportunities to indigenous peoples and women's organizations.
Este breve informe evalua la implementación del proyecto: ''Calidad de la Educación: Desarrollo de capacidades para instituciones de formación pedagógica (ProCalidad)"'. Los evaluadores analizaron los documentos relevantes del proyecto y realizaron entrevistas focalizadas y estructuradas en Alemania y en los dos países socios visitados. Para completar, se realizaron entrevistas a distancia (por teléfono, Skype, Internet) en el contexto de ProCalidad Guatemala.
El EPCP es un enfoque flexible que involucra a pequeños productores, agentes del mercado, investigadores y otros proveedores de servicios, en un proceso colectivo que identifica y aprovecha potenciales oportunidades de negocio, que puedan beneficiar equitativamente a los diversos actores de la cadena de mercado. Este enfoque fue desarrollado y aplicado primero en los Andes, para mejorar la competitividad de las cadenas de mercado de papa y mejorar los ingresos de los pequeños productores.

Chile is one of the leading agricultural producers in Latin America and an important player in world agro-alimentary markets-a position it is determined to maintain. In 2008, the government (through the Ministry of Agriculture) requested technical assistance from the World Bank to define how agricultural innovation can help maintain future competitiveness and how it needs to evolve.
Climate change threatens to undermine decades of development achievements in China's Huang-Huai-Hai River Basin. Farmers in the 3H Basin have long been plagued by water scarcity and frequent droughts and floods. Development efforts have succeeded in relieving some of these pressures, but the effects of climate change put these achievements in jeopardy.
