For agricultural extension and advisory services (AEAS), social media presents a huge scope not just to communicate to the farmers better and with efficiency, but also to act as innovation brokers in Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS). And not just for the organizations, social media has made it easier for farmers to communicate with extension professionals, experts and peers in real time. And with this increased potential to share views and ideas and easy access to information, discretion becomes important for organizations to maintain professionalism in a new social world.

Deux événements importants – le Sommet des Nations Unies sur le développement durable 2015 et la COP21, sur le développement et le changement climatique, ont donné lieu à des engagements concrets et sans précédent à l’échelle mondiale pour éradiquer la pauvreté d’ici à 2030 et promouvoir la protection de l’environnement.
Le programme de la GIZ intitulé « Amélioration des conditions-cadres dans le secteur privé et financier (ProEcon) » vise à promouvoir le développement économique au Zimbabwe. Parmi les projets conçus à cet effet figure la promotion des cycles économiques en milieu rural. Se fondant sur l’agriculture contractuelle comme instrument efficace, le projet ProEcon appuie l’intégration des petits exploitants agricoles dans les chaines de valeur, l’objectif étant d’augmenter leurs possibilités de revenu.
L’Initiative sur les bonnes pratiques au niveau mondial entend rendre l’information et le savoir-faire en matière de vulgarisation facilement accessibles à un large public de praticiens. Pour ce faire, elle prépare des Notes de bonnes pratiques, qui décrivent les concepts et méthodes clés dans un format facile à comprendre. Development is the process of change and facilitation helps in accelerating this process through the change agents‘ or the extension service provider. While working with farmers, agri-traders and processors, facilitation refers to promote group learning, building consensus and enhancing participation in collective actions. A facilitator has multidimensional roles to play.
These advanced training materials have been produced to foster the capacity of practitioners from private, nongovernmental and public sectors on one hand, and academics and scientists on the other, to practically implement cost-efficient RWHI technologies and practices in arid and semi-arid areas. Therefore, these training materials intend to provide the required information to support proper planning, design and construction of cost-efficient RWHI technologies and practices, with special emphasis on the specific problems encountered in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
These training materials have been produced to foster the capacity of key members of local communities to practically implement RWHI systems in a cost-efficient manner. This Training of Trainers Manual is designed to help build the capacity of trainers in flash flood risk management, who can then disseminate the knowledge to a larger number of practitioners. The manual presents an eight-day course including a three-day field trip. Detailed lesson plans for 21 sessions are followed by resource materials that will enable the trainers to replicate the course in their own work areas.
