African agriculture is currently at a crossroads, at which persistent food shortages are compounded by threats from climate change. But, as this book argues, Africa can feed itself in a generation and help contribute to global food security. To achieve this Africa has to define agriculture as a force in economic growth by: advancing scientific and technological research; investing in infrastructure; fostering higher technical training; and creating regional markets.
The key concepts and definitions of this brief provide a common point of reference to inform the formulation of the TAP Common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems.
Innovation platforms are widely used in agricultural research to connect different stakeholders to achieve common goals. Con el objetivo de confeccionar los planes de fincas a partir de la aplicación de una metodología para tal fin, se realizó una investigación en 25 fincas de los municipios Perico, Martí, Colón y Jagüey Grande (provincia Matanzas, Cuba). Se confeccionó una guía a partir de la metodología de Palma y Cruz (2010), modificada según el contexto cubano, y se capacitó a varios facilitadores que trabajaron con grupos de campesinos, por lo que en la elaboración de los planes se aprovechó los conocimientos de las personas con mayor experiencia.
This short presentation, prepared for the 22nd European Seminar on Extension and Education (ESEE) in Wageningen (29 April 2015), summarizes the SOLINSA (Support Of Learning and Innovation Networks for Sustainable Agriculture) project and its objectives and describes the three features to enhance transition towards sustainable agriculture through learning & innovation: 1) Processes of co-evolution; 2) Joint Reflection; 3) Facilitation.
Land and property rights, migration, and citizenship are complex issues that cut across all social, economic, and political spheres of West Africa. This paper provides an overarching scoping of the most pressing contemporary issues related to land, migration, and citizenship, including how they intersect in various contexts and locations in West Africa. The way issues are analytically framed captures structural challenges and sets them against the regional and global meta-trends of which policy makers and practitioners should be aware for conflict-sensitive planning.

Partie d’une simple culture d’appoint associée à d’autres spéculations, la production de pomme de terre fait maintenant partie intégrante des systèmes de productions locaux. C’est la principale stratégie adaptative des paysans pour faire face aux crises alimentaires.
Year 1 activities were mainly on establishment of the project team at the global and country levels. A Partnership Agreement between AGRINATURA-EEIG and FAO was formalized and signed, and practical coordination mechanisms established. A Specific Power of Attorney between AGRINATURA-EEIG members within CDAIS was created, agreed and signed by all members, serving as the consortium agreement among members.
The world’s population is likely to reach 9 billion by the middle of this century. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) believes that 60 per cent more food will be needed by 2050 to sustain all these people. Where possible, this food should be produced where it is needed – in developing countries.
