This brief on the session of "Partnerships for livelihood impacts" which was held during the the GCARD Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (Punta Del Este, Uruguay, 29 October – 1 November 2012), discusses the Empowering Smallholder Farmers in the Markets (ESFIM) programme. ESFIM sought to generate demand-driven research supportive of the policy priorities and activities undertaken by farmers’ organizations that strengthens the advocacy capacities of national farmers’ organisations.
El estudio buscó caracterizar dos elementos complementarios en el subcontinente latinoamericano: i) el surgimiento de políticas públicas específicas para el sector de la AF, y ii) la forma en que las políticas agrarias clásicas afectan ese sector. El documento consta de dos partes. La primera presenta un análisis transversal del conjunto de estudios de caso nacionales y la segunda parte presenta dichos estudios. The first phase in the development of the Common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation systems (CD for AIS) consisted of the review of the existing literature, building up a repository of relevant documentation on agricultural innovation in general and AIS and CD for AIS. This report summarizes this first phase. In particular, Section 1 covers this brief introduction. Sections two and three focus on the review of relevant literature, presenting the methodology used and the structure of the repository itself.
LenCD has prepared a joint statement on results and capacity development (presented in this publication), which stresses that meaningful, sustainable results are premised on proper investments in capacity development and that these results materialize at different levels and at different times, along countries’ development trajectory. To provide evidence in support of this statement, LenCD launched a call for submission of stories.
Lancée par le président brésilien Lula au début des années 2000, Fome Zero est une stratégie globale de lutte contre la faim, intégrant un ensemble de programmes publics d’accès à l’alimentation, de soutien à l’agriculture familiale et de développement d’activités génératrices de revenus, le tout dans un cadre impliquant fortement la société civile. Grâce à Fome Zero, le Brésil est souvent montré comme le modèle à suivre en matière de politique publique de lutte contre la faim. Mais quels sont les aléas du copier-coller de ce modèle ?
Inclusion is a key issue for Agricultural Research for Development (ARD). Development goals in and of themselves call for better livelihoods and opportunities for the less privileged actors working in agriculture. They also call for greater equity and balanced representation of the population at an institutional level. This brief focuses on how ARD processes can more sensitively address gender relations and youth issues. Women and young people have distinctive needs and interests which can be less visible within broader “Producer Organizations”, for example.
Este es un estudio analítico-descriptivo no publicado, enfocado en TICs en la apicultura argentina, uruguaya, costarricense y dominicana, se enmarca conceptualmente analizando la situación productiva apícola global y de estos países latinoamericanos y el “estado del arte” de TICs en agricultura y apicultura en referentes líderes. Proyecta una potencial adaptación por los países bajo estudio; conceptualiza un modelo decisorio de productor apícola y sintetiza implicancias de variables relevantes para el desarrollo y difusión de dichas tecnologías.
El reporte se divide en cuatro partes. En la primera, se introduce la temática y la justificación; se proponen los objetos de la investigación, y se presenta su estructura y metodología. Luego presenta un breve panorama de la telefonía móvil en tres países y se plantean algunos lineamientos analíticos La segunda revisa perspectivas como mejorar el ingreso de pequeños agricultores: cadenas de valor, el modelo de arrastro del supermercado y sistemas de información.

This Breakout Session at the GCARD Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (Punta Del Este, Uruguay, 29 October – 1 November 2012)) sought to identify effective strategies for implementing innovation partnerships that improve the livelihoods of the poor on a large scale, including the gaining of evidence and understanding needed for that implementation.
