This brochure presents the five-year TAP-AIS project (2019-2024) funded by the European Union under the DeSIRA Initiative and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The project has the main objective to strengthen capacities to innovate in national agricultural innovation systems (AIS) in the context of climate-relevant, productive, and sustainable transformation of agriculture and food systems in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific.
This policy brief presents a methodology for assessing agricultural innovation systems (AIS), developed and pilot tested by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the context of the Tropical Agriculture Platform, a G20 initiative to develop capacities for agricultural innovation in the tropics supported by the European Union. Using participatory, multi-stakeholder methods and tools, the assessment of a country’s AIS take stock of enabling and hindering factors in innovation processes, identifies gaps and challenges, and advices on ways to strengthen the AIS.
In Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR), agricultural innovation has the potential to improve livelihoods of farmers and rural people, improve food and nutrition security, and allow for sustainable management of natural resources. The national assessment of the agricultural innovation system (AIS) in Malawi was conducted using a framework of four types of analyses: functional, structural, capacity and enabling environment analysis. The approach included five case studies that addressed three methods including the use of indigenous methods for fall armyworm (FAW) control in Farmer Field Schools (FFS), livestock transfer programs, and a horticulture marketing innovation platform in Mzimba, Ntchisi, Balaka, and Thyolo districts.

El presente documento tiene por finalidad sistematizar y difundir las actividades realizadas en el municipio Yacapaní del departamento Santa Cruz en Bolivia, en el marco del Plan Nacional de CpD para Bolivia del proyecto ICDS Bolivia (MDRyT-INIAF-FAO). Esta fue la primera área piloto en la que la ICDS Bolivia inició sus actividades en el nivel local, las cuales se llevaron a cabo en tres etapas. La primera fue una etapa exploratoria mediante un diagnóstico participativo sobre necesidades y oportunidades en comunicación para la innovación y el desarrollo rural.
