In order to facilitate Participatory Technology Development (PTD) in African agriculture, extensionists and scientists must collaborate with local innovators to optimise (where necessary) and disseminate their innovations. Building on an innovation-decision approach, the characteristics of innovations that achieve widespread uptake are identified.
