Argentine agriculture has undergone significant transformations over the past three decades. After a long period of stagnant production and productivity, starting in the early 1970s, a number of independent but interconnected events fostered a new technological cycle that induced rapid growth in cereals and oilseeds production. Zero tillage and the introduction of genetically modified soybean varieties were key elements of this change. Argentina reached a leading position across agricultural commodity markets.
Documento de evaluación final del IFAD(Fida) a respecto de proyecto implementado en Argentina. Esta evaluación tiene como objetivo principal efectuar una valoración sobre el desempeño y el impacto del proyecto, buscando al mismo tiempo generar hallazgos y recomendaciones para futuras operaciones similares en Argentina y otros países. This flyer expresses the idea that Agricultural knowledge, science and technology (AKST) cannot be achieved through business as usual and that nstitutions are needed that can drive efforts in the face of unprecedented challenges. The discussed key questions are: How have institutions shaped the development of AKST? What are their impacts on sustainable and equitable development? Which institutional arrangements have the greatest potential to drive and deliver sustainability and development goals?
This paper introduces a new research framework for social learning, to be able to derive ways to facilitate social learning. The authors report on an explorative interview study to substantiate the framework. One interesting conclusion was that hidden agenda’s were shown to undermine trust, which in turn undermined the social learning process. This explains the importance of openness for social learning. Research results show substantiate the research framework, and show that it can be used to derive methods to facilitate social learning.
The Papa Andina network employs collective action in two novel approaches for fostering market chain innovation. The participatory market chain approach (PMCA) and stakeholder platforms engage small potato producers together with market agents and agricultural service providers in group activities to identify common interests, share market knowledge and develop new business opportunities.
This report presents the main results of the EU-funded IN-SIGHT project ‘Strengthening Innovation Processes for Growth and Development’. The authors sketched out a conceptual framework and knowledge base for a more effective European policy on innovation in agriculture and rural areas. Both conceptual framework and knowledge base are consistent with the new European agenda for agricultural and rural policy and sensitive to the diversity of the European agricultural and rural systems.
The presentation was given in January 2009 and introduced why a new approach for livestock development for poverty alleviation was desirable, innovation, innovation systems and value chains, building of innovation platforms, learning-oriented monitoring and evaluation, and scaling up and out.
