The study analyzes the current state of Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) in Africa and presents its challenges and opportunities. A review of the ATVET in selected Sub-Saharan Africa countries shows that there are far too few training opportunities for young people and that often, the training offered does not match the needs of the private sector and of local administrations. ATVET trainings focus primarily on production skills and on producers themselves with
evelopment projects on interventions to reduce postharvest losses (PHL) are often implemented largely independently of the specific context and without sufficient adaptation to the needs of people who are supposed to use them. An approach is needed for the design and implementation of specific, locally owned interventions in development projects. This approach is based on Participatory Development and includes Living Lab and World Cafés. We applied the approach in a case study on reducing PHL in tomato value chains in Nigeria. The approach consists of nine steps.
This study focused on the relationship between job design and behavioural outcomes of employees in Agricultural Research Training, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study was quantitative and the items in the questionnaire were adapted from previous studies. A total of 227 respondents were surveyed and statistical regression models were used to examine the relationship between the independent variables (job design) and dependent variables (employee behavioural outcomes).
Following the food price crisis in 2008, African governments implemented policies aiming at crowding in investment in rice value chain upgrading to help domestic rice compete with imports. This study assess the state of rice value chain upgrading in West Africa by reviewing evidence on rice millers’ investment in semi-industrial and industrial milling technologies, contract farming and vertical integration during the post-crisis period 2009–2019. We find that upgrading is more dynamic in countries with high rice production and import bills and limited comparative advantage in demand.
This paper examines the role of postsecondary agricultural education and training (AET) in sub-Saharan Africa in the context of the region’s agricultural innovation systems. Specifically, the paper looks at how AET in sub-Saharan Africa can contribute to agricultural development by strengthening innovative capacity, or the ability of individuals and organisations to introduce new products and processes that are socially or economically relevant, particularly with respect to smallholder farmers who represent the largest group of agricultural producers in the region.
El Instituto Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Planificación Económica y Social (ILPES) de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL) ha instituido un espacio periódico abierto a la interlocución con los especialistas en planificación para el desarrollo en la región, denominado Jornadas de Planificación. Entre el 17 y el 17 de mayo de 2016, estas jornadas se combinaron con el Seminario Internacional “Los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible y la Construcción de Futuros para América Latina y el Caribe”.
Entre 2016 y 2017, la Dirección Nacional de Extensión Agropecuaria (DNEA) de Costa Rica coordinó un proceso de diálogo y consulta dentro de la institución y con otras entidades relacionadas con la extensión y la innovación agropecuaria, con el acompañamiento de la FAO, la CEPAL y consultores asociados a la Red Latinoamericana de Servicios de Extensión Rural (RELASER), para desarrollar un nuevo enfoque de los procesos de acompañamiento técnico y fortalecimiento de capacidades de los productores agropecuarios, con el fin de crear sistemas intensivos en información y conocimiento.
Este estudio tiene como principal orientación recoger, documentar y analizar experiencias relevantes de empoderamiento de las mujeres rurales en Chile, en vistas a otorgar orientaciones a las políticas públicas que contribuyan al desarrollo y mitigación de la pobreza.
Este estudio apunta a evaluar esta pregunta a través del examen de un caso exitoso de conformación de una cadena productiva de jugos en Paraguay, con la participación de una empresa exportadora. La primera parte del estudio hace consideraciones sobre el debate entre comercio y pobreza en la literatura, al mismo tiempo de analizar brevemente la estructura productiva del Paraguay y sus niveles de pobreza, para luego indicar las principales hipótesis de la investigación.
