Sustainable agricultural intensification requires the use of multiple agricultural technologies in an integrated manner to enhance productivity while conserving the natural resource base. This study analyses the adoption and impacts of sustainable intensification practices (SIPs) using a dataset from Ghana. A multivariate probit (MVP) model was estimated to assess the adoption of multiple SIPs. Moreover, we used a multivalued semi-parametric treatment effect (MVTE) model to estimate the effects of adopting multiple SIPs on maize productivity.
In developing regions with high levels of poverty and a dependence on climate sensitive agriculture, studies focusing on climate change adaptation, planning, and policy processes, have gained relative importance over the years. This study assesses the impact of farmer perceptions regarding climate change on the use of sustainable agricultural practices as an adaptation strategy in the Chinyanja Triangle, Southern Africa.
Background: Up to now, efforts to help local communities out of the food-insecurity trap were guided by researcher (or other actors)-led decisions on technologies to be implemented by the communities. The promotion of land, soil and water conservation measures has been a widespread development in sub-Saharan Africa in a bid to tackle degradation and improve productivity. As a result, several governments have launched various campaigns on soil, land and water conservation measures. The aim of this study is to determine some of the factors that influence farmers’ awareness (knowledge) and adoption of land, soil and water conservation practices. Data for this study was collected from 312 households using a questionnaire survey in the Chinyanja Triangle of Southern Africa.
Traditional shifting cultivation in the Amazon region has caused negative environmental and social effects due to the use of fire. This type of agriculture has been criticized because it results in emission of large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere and a loss of soil productive potential.

Another problem of changes in the Earth's climate is its impact in the agriculture production. In this scenario, application of statistical models as well as development of new methods become very important to aid in the analyses of climate from ground-based stations and outputs of forecasting models. Additionally, remote sensing images have been used to improve the monitoring of crop yields.
Automation of essential processes in agriculture is becoming widespread, especially when fast action is required. However, some processes that could greatly benefit from some degree of automation have such difficult characteristics, that even small improvements pose a great challenge. This is the case of fish disease diagnosis, a problem of great economic, social and ecological interest. Difficult problems like this often require a interdisciplinary approach to be tackled properly, as multifaceted issues can greatly benefit from the inclusion of different perspectives.
El Silvopastoreo es un sistema de producción pecuaria en donde las leñosas perennes (árboles y/ o arbustos) interactúan con los componentes tradicionales (forrajeras herbáceas y animales) bajo un sistema de manejo integral, ha sido planteado con base en resultados investigativos, como una alternativa de producción sostenible que permite reducir el impacto ambiental de los sistemas tradicionales de producción.
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo abordar el tema y el debate sobre la noción de innovación social. Ofrece una revisión de la literatura reciente, los elementos más importantes del debate y se presenta lo que se considera como la clave para distinguir la innovación social de otros tipos de fenómenos sociales. Para esto se recurre a la acción colectiva como herramienta de análisis, y también se presenta un estudio de caso en que se aplicaron estás nociones.
En este artículo se hace una reflexión sobre los problemas que enfrenta la planificación del desarrollo local y sobre las críticas hacia la localización espacial de las actividades socioeconómicas, lo cual es extensivo al estudio de los sistemas agroalimentarios localizados (SIAL). Más adelante, se centra la discusión en la aportación latinoamericana al enfoque SIAL, con base en una perspectiva ética que aborda la visión humanista sobre la seguridad alimentaria desde el contexto de la relación global-local.
