This report tells the story of a gender pilot that was carried out in water users' organizations for irrigated agriculture in the Peruvian highlands or Sierra region. It was designed upon the request of Peru's ministry of agriculture, with the objective to strengthen the role of women in water management and to improve their condition as agricultural producers. At first, a gender diagnostic was carried out to better understand the different barriers that hinder the attendance and thus equality of participation of women in trainings and meetings.
This report analyses the experiences and lessons from three World Bank-Supported watershed development projects in the Indian states of Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.5 The primary reason for the analysis was to guide the development and execution of new watershed programs in India, including new Bank-supported state-level operations in Uttarakhand and Karnataka, and a proposed national project now under preparation.

The central question in increasing productivity and generating incomes in African agriculture is how to move from technology generation to innovations that respond to constraints of agricultural production along the value chains. This question was considered in the context of subsistence agriculture, smallholder production systems, inefficient marketing and investments by the private sector, a preponderance of public interventions, and inadequate policies.
Cet article aborde la mise en place d’un projet d’agroforesterie villageoise, pour la gestion intégrée des ressources naturelles, dans le hameau de Duale Mitterrand (52 ménages) situé sur le plateau des Batéké (République démocratique du Congo). Fin des années 1990 : le Brésil adopte une politique agricole duale fondée sur l’appui à l’agrobusiness et à l’agriculture familiale. Dans ce contexte, l’un des principaux enjeux porte sur la définition d’un modèle agricole destiné à améliorer le soutien à une agriculture familiale longtemps niée par les politiques agricoles successives. Cet article participe à cette réflexion, toujours d’actualité, en discutant les difficultés d’accompagnement de la « modernisation » de ce type d’agriculture.
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo abordar el tema y el debate sobre la noción de innovación social. Ofrece una revisión de la literatura reciente, los elementos más importantes del debate y se presenta lo que se considera como la clave para distinguir la innovación social de otros tipos de fenómenos sociales. Para esto se recurre a la acción colectiva como herramienta de análisis, y también se presenta un estudio de caso en que se aplicaron estás nociones.
América Latina, el Caribe y el mundo enfrentan una crisis que incluye, entre otras, dos dimensiones fundamentales: el dramático deterioro ambiental y la profunda debacle alimentaria. Dicha crisis se caracteriza por el acaparamiento, concentración y extranjerización de las tierras de los campesinos, de los indígenas originarios y de los afrodescendientes solo comparable con la que se dio durante la Colonia.
