Se realizó el presente trabajo, con el objetivo de contribuir al incremento del fondo documental relacionado con la SPV en el cultivo del garbanzo. En noviembre del 2009 se sembraron 26 cultivares de garbanzo (21 foráneos y cinco nacionales) en áreas de la Cooperativa de Producción Agropecuaria (CPA) “Gilberto León” del municipio San Antonio de Los Baños en la provincia Artemisa.
Con el fin de brindar experiencias, el presente trabajo se desarrolló en fincas de campesinos de La Palma, Pinar del Río, y Urbano Noris, Holguín, dos localidades fuertemente afectadas por la sequía y salinidad en nuestro país. En ambas comunidades, los productores e investigadores han experimentado diferentes alternativas, las cuales transcurren desde sistemas simples para la captura de agua de lluvia hasta la introducción de diversidad en distintos cultivos y nuevas variedades tolerantes a las condiciones locales.
Este artículo presenta una propuesta de marco teórico, conceptual y operativo (MaTCo) diseñado para documentar las experiencias de dichos actores y las estrategias de innovación tecnológica implementadas en el Nodo de Innovación (HUB) Trópico Bajo de Chiapas. Dicho marco incluye indicadores para conocer los principios, metodologías y herramientas utilizadas por cada actor estudiado. Para ello fue necesario construir e implementar el MaTCo, desde una perspectiva socio-agronómica holística y aplicarlo a cuatro estudios de caso de actores que colaboran con el programa.

Given the diversity and context-specificity of innovation systems approaches, in March 2007 the World Bank organized a workshop in which about 80 experts (representing donor agencies, development and related agencies, academia, and the World Bank) took stock of recent experiences with innovation systems in agriculture and reconsidered strategies for their future development. Agriculture is among the most risk-prone sectors in the economies of Central Asia. Production shocks from weather, pests and diseases and adverse movements in agricultural product and input prices not only impact farmers and agri-business firms, but can also strain government finances. Some of these risks are small and localized and can be managed by producers. Others are the result of more severe, exogenous shocks outside agriculture that require a broader response.
