This paper presents the impacts of a participatory agroecological development project on food security and wealth levels. The Malawi Farmer to Farmer Agroecology project (MAFFA) encourages farmer experimentation, community involvement and farmer-to-farmer teaching on agroecology, nutrition and gender equity. Recent international assessments of agriculture have highlighted the urgent need for changes in farming practices in Sub-Saharan Africa, due to land degradation, high levels of food insecurity and anticipated climate change impacts.

The 2016 Rural Development Report focuses on inclusive rural transformation as a central element of the global efforts to eliminate poverty and hunger, and build inclusive and sustainable societies for all. It analyses global, regional and national pathways of rural transformation, and suggests four categories into which most countries and regions fall, each with distinct objectives for rural development strategies to promote inclusive rural transformation: to adapt, to amplify, to accelerate, and a combination of them.

Este trabajo realizó un estudio de caso cualitativo con base en una definición ampliada de desarrollo sostenible que incluye las necesidades de los actores locales, en el que se caracterizó el proceso de implementación del proyecto Paraguay Inclusivo del MAG, en especial el componente indígena. Se identificaron los puntos más importantes del proceso y de forma participativa se caracterizaron los factores clave que tuvieron influencia en el proceso de diseño y elaboración de los planes de microcapitalización indígena en seis de las comunidades indígenas beneficiarias.
