The purposes of this course are to review the major reforms being considered internationally that aim to change the policy and institutional structure and operations of public sector agricultural extension systems, and to examine the advantages and disadvantages of each of these reforms as illustrated by the selected case studies. Aside from the introductory chapter, the course is organized into nine modules, which are conceived as part of a larger framework.
This report presents the main results of the EU-funded IN-SIGHT project ‘Strengthening Innovation Processes for Growth and Development’. The authors sketched out a conceptual framework and knowledge base for a more effective European policy on innovation in agriculture and rural areas. Both conceptual framework and knowledge base are consistent with the new European agenda for agricultural and rural policy and sensitive to the diversity of the European agricultural and rural systems.
Dans le contexte de crise économique et environnementale qui touche la filière banane à la Guadeloupe, l'objectif de cette contribution est d'engager une réflexion sur l'organisation d'acteurs à l'origine des innovations agro-écologiques. Nous interrogeons les dynamiques d’acteurs face aux crises et perturbations qui touchent l'agriculture antillaise, par le biais de l'organisation qu'ils mettent en place pour accompagner le changement.
L’agriculture de conservation (AC) obéit à trois principes : travail du sol minimal, couverture du sol permanente et multiculture. Partant de ses avantages avérés pour l’écologie du sol, la séquestration de carbone et son adoption massive dans quelques régions du monde, elle est présentée par ses promoteurs comme un système durable convenant à tous contextes. Dès lors elle a été mondialement diffusée au nom du développement durable.
Pendant des décennies, la faiblesse des investissements publics dans l’agriculture a laissé les agriculteurs extrêmement vulnérables face à l’instabilité des prix, aux crises climatiques et économiques, et sans moyen pour sortir de la pauvreté. Les bailleurs de fonds et les gouvernements doivent concevoir le soutien à l’agriculture comme partie intégrante de la solution à long terme aux crises alimentaires, financières et climatiques.
This paper is the result of a joint effort of OECD/DAC and LenCD to assemble the critical messages about training and learning that are emerging from the current international scrutiny of training and capacity development. It synthesises current wisdom on the topic, and offers a sense of direction on where the debate is going, particularly in terms of approaches to capacity development interventions at country and field levels. This paper presents an overview of current opportunities and challenges facing efforts to increase the impact of rural and agricultural extension. The starting point for this analysis is in recognition that the days when agricultural extension was synonymous with the work of public sector agencies are over.

Face à la dégradation des ressources naturelles, opter vivre dans son milieu natal et s'assurer une bonne production agropastorale nécessite de la part des acteurs des actions concertées. Le projet Fertipartenaires aide les producteurs de cette province à se concerter, à réfléchir à leurs problèmes, proposer et expérimenter des solutions et les évaluer afin d'améliorer leur sécurité alimentaire.
