This paper has been prepared under the guidelines provided by the TAP Secretariat at the FAO, as a contribution to the G20 initiative TAP, which includes near 40 partners and is facilitated by FAO. Its purpose is to provide a Regional synthesis report on capacity needs assessment for agricultural innovation, with capacity gaps identified and analyzed, including recommendations to strengthen agricultural innovation systems (AIS) and draft policy recommendations to address the capacity gaps.
Esta tesis, presenta una caracterización desde el enfoque de medios de vida que permita analizar las estrategias y necesidades de los productores de plátano en relación a aspectos de producción, procesamiento agroindustrial y mercado, desarrolladas por ellos. La primera parte de la investigación es la caracterización, utilizando el enfoque de medios de vida (DFID, 1999) y el marco de los capitales (Flora et ál. 2004).
El proyecto tiene por objetivo general: Mejorar la competitividad agropecuaria e ingresos de los pequeños y medianos productores, mediante el fortalecimiento del sistema integrado de extensión e innovación agropecuaria y coadyuvar a la seguridad alimentaria, mediante el incremento de la disponibilidad de los principales rubros de consumo nacional. Para contribuir con dicho objetivo, el proyecto se compone de cuatro componentes.
El objetivo general del proyecto es contribuir al fomento agroalimentario y competitividad del subsector frutícola de Panamá, generando beneficios socioeconómicos importantes para la población rural y urbana, en el marco de la implementación de estrategias nacionales de desarrollo sostenible de la agricultura, seguridad alimentaria y exportaciones.
