Antropólogos Iberoamericanos en Red (AIBR)

The Association AIBR (Antropólogos Iberoamericanos en Red) started in 1996 with the creation of El Rincón del Antropólogo (The Anthropologist Corner), a website that became one of the first online social networks of anthropologists in the Spanish-speaking world. Our Association is currently formed by 551 individual members, and 10 institutional members. At this moment the AIBR Social Network connects over 8.200 anthropologists. This growth has helped us to consolidate an independent and financially self sustainable organization. In November 2002 the Association was registered in Spain as a nonprofit organization. Since 2002, AIBR has been publishing the scientific journal AIBR. Revista de Antropología Iberoamericana (Journal of Iberoamerican Anthropology). The journal releases a new issue every four months, both in electronic and paper format. The basic objectives of AIBR are: To promote and encourage the practice and development of Anthropology. To promote and support the exchange of ideas and opportunities among the well-known professionals of this discipline or those who are interested in Anthropology. To develop communication between related institutions among Spain, Portugal, and the American continent. AIBR does not belong to any university or academic institution; neither does it follow any political or religious faith. It is a private, independent initiative that anyone may join. It is funded by means of the statutory projects and activities, and the annual subscription fees provided by its members. AIBR accepts membership from individuals, institutions, and Academic Departments which may take advantage of the promotion and support of a growing network of Anthropologists in throughout the Iberoamerica.
