This regional workshop was designed to strengthen the capabilities of representatives of NIFUs for analyzing the situations of their NAIS, and to use their national experiences to identify strengths, weaknesses, and threats/challenges affecting seven key areas influencing development of NAIS, namely: (i) strategy/policy, (ii) institutional aspects, (iii) stakeholders, (iv) content, (v) people, (vi) infrastructure, and (vii) financial aspects. Possible solutions for the key weaknesses and threats /challenges were defined by participants.
This paper synthesizes Component 2 of the Regoverning Markets Programme. It is based on 38 empirical case studies where small-scale farmers and businesses connected successfully to dynamic markets, doing business with agri-processors and supermarkets. The studies aimed to derive models, strategies and policy principles to guide public and private sector actors in promoting greater participation of small-scale producers in dynamic markets. This publication forms part of the Regoverning Markets project.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will vary for different groups of rural population, with the highest impact expected to be on farmers and other vulnerable groups, especially women and youth. Targeted support is feasible only by activating a network of actors or organizations within agricultural innovation systems (AIS) and promoting customized technologies and practices suitable for location specific contexts.
Cet article propose de s’interroger sur les outils géographiques d’évaluation de la durabilité socioéconomique, dans le cadre d’une réflexion surle rôle de l’agriculture dans le développement durable des territoires ruraux. L’exemple de la commercialisation des produits bio, à travers la comparaison de deux systèmes de livraison à domicile de paniers de fruits etlégumes bio dans la région de Stockholm, a permis d’élaborer et de tester une méthodologie d’évaluation de la durabilité des réseaux alimentaires étudiés.
El concepto de desarrollo sostenible (DS) tiene como punto de referencia el Informe de la Comisión Bruntland, donde se le describe como un “proceso capaz de satisfacer las necesidades de las generaciones presentes sin comprometer la capacidad de las generaciones futuras de satisfacer las suyas” (ONU,1987). Desde esa perspectiva, el desarrollo económico y el uso racional de los recursos naturales están inexorablemente unidos en el tiempo y el espacio.
Ante las situaciones de cambio y transición experimentadas en Venezuela a distintos niveles y con diferentes alcances, la agroindustria se perfila como un elemento determinante para la transformación y la consolidación del sistema agroalimentario rural.
Innovation system approach offers an holistic, multidisciplinary and comprehensive framework for analyzing innovation process, the roles of science and technology actors and their interactions, emphazing on wider stakeholder participation, linkages and institutional context of innovation and processes. This paper was aimed to: 1. review the concept of innovation system; 2. appraise the application to agriculture and its relevance and 3. analyze the policy implications for agricultural extension delivery in Nigeria.
This paper, presented at the 8th European IFSA Symposium ( Workshop 6: "Change in knowledge systems and extension services: Role of the new actors") in 2008, discusses the innovation network Waardewerken, a Dutch network of rural entrepreneurs pioneering in multifunctional agriculture. which aims to contribute to a professional multifunctional agriculture sector in the Netherlands. For this purpose it cooperates with researchers and policymakers in order to improve policy conditions and to develop knowledge for multifunctional farmers.
This report shows some initial results about the research project entitled GlobalOrg, on a Brazilian case study, investigating the sustainability of tropical fruit organic farming in a global food chains perspective. It was performed an analysis about the production strategies of certified units of a familiar smalholders cooperative from Itápolis-SP-Brazil.
