Based on three rounds of panel data (2007, 2009, and 2012) on indigenous households, this study assessed the impacts of Integrated Aquaculture-agriculture value chain participation on the welfare of marginalized poor indigenous rural households in Bangladesh. Global technology education is largely dominated by Western universities. Students from developing countries face an enormous challenge when moving from their local education system into the competitive international education market. Their local knowledge gets lost in a foreign education system where the students are required to acquire a new set of skills. This paper presents a survey among international technology students that highlights the differences.
A challenge for researchers and other developers of new technologies in agriculture is to find ways of communicating their results and recommendations. This challenge is particularly acute in regions in which farmers have limited access to education and where illiteracy is widespread, such as in the rural areas of Mali. One approach that shows potential, yet remains largely unused by extension services, is the dissemination of educational video on mobile phones with video and Bluetooth technology, which are widespread in the region.
The private sector’s presence in agricultural advisory services worldwide has been on the increase for over three decades. This trend has also been observed in the Mantaro Valley (Peru), in a context of dairy family farming. The objective of the communication is to analyse the modalities of advisory services privatization and assess the consequences of this privatization for the farmers and their livestock systems. Data were collected through input suppliers, different types of advisers and producers interviews.
The purposes of this course are to review the major reforms being considered internationally that aim to change the policy and institutional structure and operations of public sector agricultural extension systems, and to examine the advantages and disadvantages of each of these reforms as illustrated by the selected case studies. Aside from the introductory chapter, the course is organized into nine modules, which are conceived as part of a larger framework.
This document sets out how EU Research and Innovation (R&I) policy contributes to the major global challenge of ensuring food and nutrition security (FNS). It is a first step in the further development of a more coherent approach to European R&I which aims at mobilising resources and stakeholders to set out aligned R&I agendas in response to recent international political drivers such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the COP 21 climate commitments.
This workshop paper relates to the consultation organized by the Global Forum for Agricultural Research (GFAR), FAO of the UN (FAO), Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions APAARI), International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Consultation held at ICRISAT, Hyderabad, India, in December 2009. En esta comunicación se argumenta en torno a las ventajas de contar con una “Educación Intercultural sobre el Cambio Climático” como vía para empoderar a las comunidades locales. Se propone una metodología para la recuperación y valoración del estado de vitalidad/erosión intergeneracional de los conocimientos tradicionales sobre el cambio climático.
Este trabajo tiene como objetivo conocer el uso de las TIC por parte de los AF. Se busca dar cuenta del proceso de creación social de la innovación y tecnología, desde una concepción de la complejidad de los procesos de innovación y de comunicación, asumiendo a las TIC como medios de comunicación. Este trabajo sigue el marco teórico de la Innovación, incorporando conceptos de la Teoría de la Comunicación.
El objetivo de este trabajo presentado en la II Jornadas de Sociología es analizar el rol que cumplen las TIC en el proceso de comercialización implementado por Tu Raíz atendiendo el uso de dichas tecnologías en la compra de productos como en la venta, desde una concepción de la complejidad de los procesos de innovación y de comunicación.
