Durante la IX Reunión del Grupo Técnico de Investigación, Tecnología, Transferencia e Innovación del CAC el 28 de noviembre de los corrientes en la ciudad de Panamá. Para el PDRR la agricultura familiar necesita de nuevos y fortalecidos sistemas locales de innovación que sean especializados para su actividad, esto requiere de una agenda planificada desde los territorios con el fin de atender las demandas de los productores familiares.
This book discusses innovation problems and opportunities for family farming in the different regions of the American continent, as well as the role of hemispheric, regional and national agrifood research systems. Likewise, it provides a description of the main innovation actions and projects promoted by IICA, and the main success cases over recent years.
There have been repeated calls for a ‘new professionalism’ for carrying out agricultural research for development since the 1990s. At the centre of these calls is a recognition that for agricultural research to support the capacities required to face global patterns of change and their implications on rural livelihoods, requires a more systemic, learning focused and reflexive practice that bridges epistemologies and methodologies.

La Política de Agricultura Familiar campesina, indígena y afrodescendiente PAFCIA descrita en este documento, es un instrumento estratégico, con visión de futuro para la toma de decisiones y para dar marco a los procesos de dialogo e incidencia política y técnica, así como para desarrollar y consolidar un modelo productivo diversificado, incluyente y territorializado. La PAFCIA se propone durante el período 2018 - 2030, transitar hacia ese modelo y fortalecer las organizaciones de la agricultura familiar a escala nacional y regional.
En este libro se sintetiza la experiencia de la CEPAL en los procesos de diagnóstico y formulación de estrategias orientadas al fortalecimiento de ocho cadenas de valor rurales en México, varios países de Centroamérica y la República Dominicana. El apoyo a estas cadenas fue posible gracias al financiamiento del Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), en el marco del proyecto conjunto de la CEPAL y el FIDA denominado “Crecimiento inclusivo, política industrial rural y cadenas de valor participativas en América Latina y el Caribe”.
The ‘ICT based Customer Care Solution for Poor Farmers’ is a case study that highlights Katalyst project’s work in developing low cost ICT solutions for farmers by collaborating with various public and private sector partners. The case study specifically focuses on a missed call based agriculture helpline service that was developed in collaboration with leading agriculture input companies. The service provides agriculture information solutions to smallholder farmers for free. Till date, the service has benefitted approximately 160,000 farmers.
Peri-urban areas, at the interface between urban and rural, link rural livelihoods with the urban lifestyles that put multiple pressures on peri-urban ecosystems. This poses huge challenges for the health and livelihoods of an increasing number of disenfranchised, poor and marginalised citizens, and for sustainable urban development.
The Feed the Future Asia Innovative Farmers Activity (AIFA) is a regional project working to facilitate the scaling of critical agricultural technologies through regional partnership and technology transfer. The project works with a range of agricultural technology stakeholders on a regional basis (private sector, research institutions, governments, networks, etc.) to increase food security, reduce poverty, and improve environmental sustainability by facilitating agricultural innovation and technology diffusion in the Asia region.
This report provides summary findings and conclusions from a set of five case studies examining the scaling up of pro-poor agricultural innovations through commercial pathways in developing countries.
