This document provides an overview of the Tropical Agriculture Platform and highlights its main goals and activities.
This policy brief presents, explains and illustrates the five key recommendations that came out of the joint learning process during the JOLISAA project: 1. Build on innovation “in the social wild”; 2. Combine local and external knowledge and ideas to enhance innovative capacity; 3. Encourage access to diverse value chains to lower the innovation risks; 4. Support unpredictable innovation processes; 5. Address the multiple dimensions of innovation.
Cet article interroge les opportunités et les défis de la demande et de la consommation locales en Afrique de l‘Ouest. Permettre à l’agriculture familiale de bénéficier pleinement de la croissance de la demande régionale nécessitera de travailler davantage sur la structuration des filières, l’aval de la production et le commerce.
Cet article reprend des travaux de prospective réalisés sur l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Il souligne la tendance à l’augmentation de la taille et à la concentration des exploitations agricoles. Selon les auteurs, cette évolution nécessitera pour l’agriculture familiale une transition vers une vocation plus commerciale.
Si elle ne prend pas en compte le secteur de la transformation qui la connecte aux marchés, l’agriculture vivrière commerciale ne sera pas en mesure de relever les défis de sécurité et de souveraineté alimentaires des pays ouest-africains. Digital as well as other technical and institutional innovations underpin the success of agriculture in developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). Such innovations are encouraging a new generation of young ‘agripreneurs’ to tackle agri-food challenges, explore ways to build resilience to climate change, and improve the incomes and livelihoods of people in agriculture.
This article describes the creation of an innovation platform in Masalala, north-western Tanzania, in order to improve smallholder paddy production and reduce inefficiencies in access to inputs and credit. Other value chains actors, including millers and buyers, have also benefitted from an improved supply of better quality paddy
