This report assesses trends in investments, human resource capacity, and outputs in agricultural research in SSA, excluding the private (for-profit) sector. The analysis uses information collected by Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI)—led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) within the portfolio of the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM).
The CCAFS (CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security) annual report for 2016 describes impact through policies and partnerships, capacity development and innovative communication, breakthrough science and innovation and integrating gender and youth. It features regional highlights and publications, and lists the people involved, financial summary, and our donors.
This CCAFS Info Note presents prospects for scaling up the contribution of index insurance to smallholder adaptation to climate risk.
The Global Innovation Index (GII) aims to capture the multi-dimensional facets of innovation by providing a rich database of detailed metrics for 127 economies, which represent 92.5% of the world’s population and 97.6% of global GDP. As Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, noted at the UN Economic and Social Council in 2013, the GII is a ‘unique tool for refining innovation policies . . . for providing an accurate picture on the role of science, technology and innovation in sustainable development’.
Innovation platforms (IPs) are a way of organizing multistakeholder interactions, marshalling ideas, people and resources to address challenges and opportunities embedded in complex settings. The approach has its roots in theories of complexity, the concept of innovation systems and practices of participatory action research. IPs have been widely adopted across Africa and beyond in recent years as a “must have” tool in a range of “for development” modes of agricultural research.
This presentation was made during the GFAR/IICA joint workshop "Enabling innovation for sustainable agricultural development in the Americas within a global context", held at FAO Headquarters, Rome, on 10 February 2017. The purpose of this document is to highlight the main challenges of agriculture in the Americas, share information regarding current state of innovation in
This report is on a Joint Workshop which was held back- to- back with the meeting of the Steering Committee of GFAR and co-organized by GFAR and IICA Secretariats. The aim of this Workshop was to discuss how, in practice, existing capacities could be better mobilized through Collective Actions in agri-food research and innovation, addressing the American Region’s key needs, and how the stakeholders can best contribute to GFAR’s aims in an effective manner.
The CDAIS project, funded by the EU and jointly implemented by Agrinatura and FAO, enhances innovation in agriculture by improving the functional capacities of individuals, organizations and systems. It brings partners together and uses continuous learning cycles to address the challenges and opportunities in and around selected ‘innovation niche partnerships’ in eight pilot countries in Central America, Africa and Asia.
