La hidroponia o cultivo sin suelo es una técnica cuya importancia reside en su alta producción por metro cuadrado, gran eficiencia en el uso de agua y una multiplicidad de cultivos compatibles que brindan a los productores de zonas áridas y semiáridas una oportunidad interesante de producción (Birgi, 2015).

This is the third volume of the proceedings of the national conference on "Water for Food and Environment", which was held from June 9 -11, 2009 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The volumes 1 and 2 have been produced as separate documents of this report series. In response to a call for abstracts, 81 abstracts were received from government institutes dealing with water resources and agriculture development, universities, other freelance researchers and researchers from the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).

Because products are resourced on a on a global scale it becomes important that the origin of the products as well as all the treatments during production can be traced and that the production methods can be verified as good agricultural practices (GAP). This also includes considerations for the environment and sustainability.

Il a été conçu comme un outil d’accompagnement destiné à tous les paysans et techniciens souhaitant développer l’agroécologie et l’agroforesterie en zone tropicale humide. Après un rapide rappel du contexte et des enjeux actuels de l’agroécologie, il fournit des informations techniques, issues de l’expérience de quatre « terrains » (République démocratique du Congo, Myanmar, Cambodge et Inde).
Des facteurs structurels expliquent l’insécurité alimentaire en éthiopie : forte croissance démographique, faible productivité des parcelles agricoles, cultures majoritairement pluviales, réseau de communication quasi inexistant, etc. Malgré des moyens et des marges de productivité importants, les politiques agricoles n’ont pas permis de réduire les besoins en aide alimentaire de la population.
