This study aimed to describe the situation of this local breed based on the perceptions and practices of the actors in the sector (including farmers, traders and service suppliers), and to draw perspectives for its future. From the interviews, the Baladi appeared adapted and more resistant to harsh conditions, especially to extreme warm temperatures, feed shortage periods, and some diseases, in particular foot-and-mouth disease.
The Global Value Chain (GVC) approach has emerged as a novel methodological device for analysing economic globalization and international trade. The suitability of the chain metaphor and strategies for moving up the ladder of GVCs (“upgrade”) is widely echoed in international development agencies and public agencies in the Global South. Most of the existing GVC studies focus on new forms of firm-to-firm relationships and the role of lead firms and chain governance in defining upgrading opportunities.
Recent approaches at enhancing the provision of agricultural support services to rice farmers in Nigeria involve multi-stakeholder partnerships. For effective performance, there is the need for right mix of partners' interests and resources otherwise conflicts may become inevitable. This study therefore investigated challenges in a multi-stakeholder partnership in rice production in Benue state that may predispose the system to conflicts and make it unsustainable.
Although many smallholder communities are yet to embark on their journey towards gender empowerment, this report presents best practice examples which demonstrate that significant strides can be achieved in relatively short time periods. Women’s Coffee initiatives are engaging consumers about the role of women in coffee production, and providing additional premiums that fund projects targeted at women, such as the projects implemented by UNICAFEC in Peru and Soppexcca in Nicaragua.
This study identifies systemic problems in the New Zealand Agricultural Innovation System (AIS) in relation to the AIS capacity to enact a co-innovation approach, in which all relevant actors in the agricultural sector contribute to combined technological, social and institutional change. Systemic problems are factors that negatively influence the direction and speed of co-innovation and impede the development and functioning of innovation systems. The contribution in the paper is twofold.
Este libro se enfoca en el análisis del sistema de innovación del sector agropecuario en México y explora dos rasgos relevantes del mismo: i) los vínculos entre dos actores fundamentales: investigadores y productores agropecuarios, y ii) el papel de las organizaciones intermediarias de innovación. Se analizan las características de la vinculación academia-sector productivo, los canales de vinculación más usados, el impacto de la vinculación sobre los investigadores y la visión que tienen ambos actores (academia y productores) sobre la vinculación.

La Secretaria de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural del Departamento de Antioquia y la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias de la Universidad de Antioquia, realizaron un proceso de capacitación en el marco del convenio 4600004063 “Fortalecimiento Institucional de las entidades que prestan el servicio de asistencia técnica municipal en la transferencia de tecnología y extensión agropecuaria en el Departamento de Antioquia”, el cual tuvo como finalidad el fortalecimiento de la Asistencia Técnica Directa Rural en el departamento durante el segundo semestre del año 2015.
