The extensive case study on ‘Improving Public Agricultural Extension Services in Bangladesh Using the M4P Approach’ illustrates Katalyst project’s experience in terms of designing interventions in the Local Government Services (LGS) sector, from testing them in small scale towards scaling-up and the accompanying challenges. The case study shows how innovative public-private partnerships create a vast impact on the lives of poor farmers in Bangladesh.
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo abordar el tema y el debate sobre la noción de innovación social. Ofrece una revisión de la literatura reciente, los elementos más importantes del debate y se presenta lo que se considera como la clave para distinguir la innovación social de otros tipos de fenómenos sociales. Para esto se recurre a la acción colectiva como herramienta de análisis, y también se presenta un estudio de caso en que se aplicaron estás nociones.
The international workshop on Agricultural Innovation Systems in Africa (AISA) was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 29–31 May 2013. Innovation policies are considered the long-term strategy to overcome the present systemic crisis. But this crisis is questioning such policies, their presuppositions and institutional arrangements. This questioning includes the Triple Helix theory and its impact on research and innovation policies. The goal is to examine how this theory can respond to theoretical and practical challenges, how the theory needs to evolve in order to fit the present context.
The World Bank Group (WBG) has a long experience in engaging in biodiversity with world-class expertise in the field. It has been the single largest funder of biodiversity investments since the late 1980s. The WBG investments have largely been of two kinds: (1) investments in biodiversity, aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of species, habitats, and ecosystems that sustain healthy ecosystems, while enhancing people's livelihoods and safety nets.
Economic growth, job creation, and development are central to the decade of transformation (2015-25) and long-term security for the people of Afghanistan. The Bank and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoIRA) recognize that agriculture and rural development are a key to inclusive growth, and hence need renewed vigor and strategic long-term investments. Further, the Bank and the GoIRA acknowledge that increases in agricultural productivity and market access for smallholders are critical for rural development, job creation, and food security in Afghanistan.

L’article défend l’idée selon laquelle la combinaison d’une diversité de modèles alimentaires au sein d’un système alimentaire concret peut favoriser la sécurisation alimentaire, et doit donc être reconnue et soutenue grâce à une gouvernance adaptée. L’impact de l’évolution du modèle agro-industriel dans les systèmes alimentaires est d’abord rappelé.
Fin des années 1990 : le Brésil adopte une politique agricole duale fondée sur l’appui à l’agrobusiness et à l’agriculture familiale. Dans ce contexte, l’un des principaux enjeux porte sur la définition d’un modèle agricole destiné à améliorer le soutien à une agriculture familiale longtemps niée par les politiques agricoles successives. Cet article participe à cette réflexion, toujours d’actualité, en discutant les difficultés d’accompagnement de la « modernisation » de ce type d’agriculture.
