India's smallholding farmers face significant challenges. They struggle with erratic weather and the impacts of climate change, pest infestations, and declining yields. Financially constrained, many are trapped by high-interest loans from local lenders. Post-harvest, issues such as crop wastage, logistics, and market access can add their troubles, with up to 40 percent of produce lost. Market fluctuations and the inability to meet quality standards further exacerbate their struggles.
The present report is based on the authors' visits to Bolivia, Honduras and Nicaragua, during June-August 2004 in order to develop an initial understanding of innovation processes and identifying stakeholders working with national innovation processes. It also review the experiences of the invited Latin American participants in the 7th Global Conference of Competitiveness Institute (entitled "Building Innovative Clusters for Competitive Advantage") in September 2004 and finally presents suggestion for further activities.
The purpose of this study was to generate information that provide comprehensive understanding of the constraints of tree-crop-livestock farming system in four sites of the Africa RISING project in Ethiopia. The study identified relevant institutions in the study locations to develop modalities for establishment of Innovation Platform (IP). The identified institutions were gathered together to identify and prioritize problems and consult on the improvement of mixed farming system in their area.
The Agriculture Innovation Partnership (AIP) project, a Feed the Future (FTF) project implemented through partnerships between United States (US) land grant and Indian universities, was to improve the livelihoods of rural populations through several education-related activities to create technical innovations, teaching capacity, and develop extension links within Indian higher educational institutions. These innovations were intended to diversify agricultural productivity and strengthen rural development to be more responsive to local market demands
This report covers the first four months of implementation, corresponding to the period February 22–June 30, of the USAID Feed the Future Mozambique Agricultural Innovations Activity. During this period, key and non-key personnel were mobilized and procurement and office start-up activities were carried out.
El documento tiene como objetivo analizar los avances realizados por países de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) en el fortalecimiento de la institucionalidad vinculada a la agricultura, el cambio climático y la seguridad alimentaria. El documento destaca iniciativas innovadoras, en ámbitos como la formulación de políticas, el desarrollo de marcos legales, el fomento de la investigación y la innovación, el desarrollo de mecanismos de financiamiento, y la gestión de riesgos climáticos, entre otros. Con el objetivo de generar insumos para las iniciativas TIC de las instituciones públicas para la agricultura y rescatar las experiencias y lecciones aprendidas de los países de America Latina y el Caribe que llevan la vanguardia en este tema, a mediados de 2010 el Centro de Análisis para la Agricultura (CAESPA) del IICA inició un proceso de identificación y análisis de los principales factores que retrasan o limitan el impacto de las TIC en esas instituciones.
This report make an study on the scaling up of agricultural innovations in Nigeria. The study has adopted different methods, concluding that the scaling up requires a multi-stakeholder approach among national governments, donor agencies, NGOs, the private sector, research institutions, and extension workers among others. In order to scaling the innovations to the end users, it is needed the combination of approaches outlined in this report
En síntesis, el presente documento tiene un carácter marcadamente exploratorio. Por lo tanto, el objetivo es modesto pues no se pretende medir o evaluar los efectos, sino identificarlos y describirlos en la medida que los actores del proceso los signifiquen como tales.
