This paper highlights seven key issues which are critical to effective platform facilitation and have not received the attention they deserve: the dynamic and evolving nature of platforms; power dynamics; gender equity; external versus internal facilitation; sustainability of the process; issues of scale; and monitoring and evaluation. These issues and implications for facilitation of innovation platforms are discussed based on examples from the field and in relation to current theories.
Agriculture 4.0 is comprised of different already operational or developing technologies such as robotics, nanotechnology, synthetic protein, cellular agriculture, gene editing technology, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and machine learning, which may have pervasive effects on future agriculture and food systems and major transformative potential. These technologies underpin concepts such as vertical farming and food systems, digital agriculture, bioeconomy, circular agriculture, and aquaponics.
Undoubtedly, high demands for food from the world-wide growing population are impacting the environment and putting many pressures on agricultural productivity. Agriculture 4.0, as the fourth evolution in the farming technology, puts forward four essential requirements: increasing productivity, allocating resources reasonably, adapting to climate change, and avoiding food waste.
The problems of agricultural development for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are considered. The features of modeling business processes in agriculture are analyzed. A financial decision support system is proposed to increase sustainability and reduce risks in the development of agricultural SMEs. The software modules are based on TEO-INVEST.
The Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID) Feed the Future De-veloping Local Extension Capacity (DLEC) project conducted a three-country study on youth and EAS in Rwanda, Niger and Gua-temala. These case studies provided a land-scape analysis to inform actions to strengthen the inclusion of youth in EAS to improve their livelihoods and increase the effective-ness of EAS systems.
This paper proposes a bionic electric spraying rod to perform the crop watering and spraying in the farm. The design concept of multiple vertebrae structures of snake is used to realize a reproducible snake bone arm and muscles of snake, which can be regarded as multiple sets of thin wires and be pulled and released through driver module. It results in different attitudes of the snake bone arm. A water pipe is installed in the snake arm connected to the spray nozzle for spraying. The mobile application interface (APP) is designed to provide the user to control the arm remotely.
The purpose of this article is to investigate the functions of design process outputs (such as design briefs, scale models, visualizations, animations) as boundary objects in the implementation of novel agricultural production system concepts.
