Commercial Villages Stores (CVS) Programme has been developed and is being implemented by Farm Concern International (FCI) with financial support from USAID/COMPETE (the Competitiveness and Trade Expansion Program) in Kenya and Uganda. The programme, which commenced in September 2009, is aimed at graduating smallholder farmers from subsistent farming to market-oriented production as active and reliable agri-commodity value chain players.
The USAID COMPETE (the Competitiveness and Trade Expansion Program) funded Commercial Village Stores (CVS) project implemented in Kenya, Meru region in Eastern Province and Eastern Uganda (Jinja) has continued to educate the target communities on post harvest solutions at the village level. Quarter 4 (July-Sept 2010) activities sought to build on strengthening the Meru sites collective action in post harvest handling and storage at the village level with an outreach to more than 10000 farmers in Igoji, Tigania East, Tigania West and Tharaka Districts.

Though categorized as a capacity building and workforce development activity, many of the key activities of BACET have included infrastructure improvements, which are longer-term in nature. Similarly, teacher training and changed teaching methods have long-term impact.

Le Tuy, province de l'Ouest du Burkina Faso est une région soudanienne à forte pression démographique et pastorale où se posent avec acuité des problèmes de fertilité des sols. Face à la dégradation des ressources naturelles, opter vivre dans son milieu natal et s'assurer une bonne production agropastorale nécessite de la part des acteurs des actions concertées. Le projet Fertipartenaires aide les producteurs de cette province à se concerter, à réfléchir à leurs problèmes, proposer et expérimenter des solutions et les évaluer afin d'améliorer leur sécurité alimentaire.
Les organisations de producteurs agricoles sont souvent considérées comme un moyen de permettre un meilleur accès des producteurs aux marchés agricoles. Notre étude montre que cette affirmation n’est valable que dans le cas de filières présentant des caractéristiques techniques relativement complexes, nécessitant une coordination entre producteurs et opérateurs aval pour la commercialisation. Dans le cas de filières à caractéristiques techniques plus simples, la coordination par le marché permet un accès facile des petits producteurs.
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo central aproximarse a la concepción teórica de la relación entre la formación de capacidades y los procesos de construcción de conocimiento interdisciplinario sobre desarrollo sostenible. Se parte de la fundamentación teórica acerca de cómo construir conocimiento científico interdisciplinario sobre desarrollo sostenible, para luego explicar cómo este proceso permite desarrollar capacidades en los individuos que le permitan abordar los procesos de planificación y gestión de la transformación social del espacio donde habitan.
