This policy brief deals with the following points: (i) Given the importance of agriculture and the rural medium for countries’ growth and development, policy makers must strengthen the institutional structure of rural extension and increase public and private investment; (ii) Abundant natural resources, knowledge, technology, and extensionists are not enough.
En la presente investigación se plantea la construcción de elementos teóricos sobre el diseño organizativo, como elemento facilitador de la difusión del conocimiento en la organización y del proceso de cambio e innovación, a partir de las nuevas tendencias como respuestas a entornos cada día más complejos y dinámicos. Las técnicas utilizadas en esta investigación fueron la observación documental y el análisis documental.
Con el propósito de elaborar unos constructos teóricos sobre experiencias en participación y organización de una asociación cooperativa de ahorro y crédito, se desarrolló la investigación de la cual se extrae el presente artículo. Rural extension plays a significant and irreplaceable role in an innovation system that creates, designs, validates, and promotes new ideas, solutions, technologies, and forms of management focused on the resolution of problems and satisfaction of the needs of farmers and rural inhabitants and the organizations that represent them. In view of the above, this document presents proposals for making rural extension a key part of innovation systems focused on rural territorial development.
This presentation argues the need of green growth in agriculture, analyzes features of the innovation systems and ends with some policies practices. This article starts by describing the evolution of innovation in agricultural research and cooperation for development, including an historical overview of agricultural research for development from green revolution to the re-discover of traditional knowledge. Then the authors analyze participation in innovation processes and make a comparison of innovation systems and platforms targeting the agri-food sector in developing countries. A particular focus is reserved to the European regional networks and to the experience of the USAID Middle East Water and Livelihoods Initiative.
This country note briefly summarizes information relevant to both climate change and agriculture in Ecuador, with focus on policy developments (including action plans and programs) and institutional make-up. Like most countries in Latin America, Ecuador has submitted one national communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) with a second one under preparation. Land use change and forestry are the largest contributors to greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions in the country.
Brazilian agriculture is a success story. The country that until the 1960s systematically received food donations from abroad. and up to the 1980s was still a large food importer, had its agriculture profoundly changed. The traditional agriculture that prevailed in Brazil until the 1970s was progressively transformed in the following decades into a modern and highly competitive agriculture based on science.
El Gobierno de Perú está comprometido en mejorar el nivel de la electrificación rural, incrementando la cobertura del servicio eléctrico en áreas rurales de un 55 por ciento estimado para fines de 2010 a un 88 por ciento para el 2020. El presente informe consiste en una evaluación de los usos productivos de la electricidad en Perú dentro del contexto del Proyecto de Electrificación Rural cuyo propósito es ampliar el servicio de electricidad y atraer la participación de la población, los gobiernos locales y las empresas eléctricas de distribución regionales.
