Over the last 20 years, poor rural farmers in Nigeria have seen the benefits of community organization as a tool for local economic development under the National Fadama Development Project series. They have witnessed improvements in rural areas that have embraced a more inclusive and participatory model of local economic decision making. Many communities have come together under the umbrella of new institutional arrangements for addressing local issues. These arrangements have visibly improved economic conditions, boosted agricultural incomes, and helped reduce rural poverty.
The CGIAR Research Program on Integrated System for the Humid Tropics, or Humidtropics, works towards transforming the lives of the rural poor in several action sites in Asia, Africa and Tropical America. In doing so, different technologies and innovations were implemented and while at first the capacity development was going on almost intuitively, as an integrated part of the implementation process, it has soon become clear that such groundbreaking activities and ideas require a more organized and supervised approach.

Africa Lead—Feed the Future’s Building Capacity for African Agricultural Transformation Program—supports the advancement of agricultural transformation in Africa as proposed by the African Union Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP). Simultaneously, Africa Lead contributes to the Feed the Future goals of reduced hunger and poverty by building the capacity of Champions—defined as men and women leaders in agriculture—and the institutions in which they operate to develop, lead, and manage the policies, structures and processes needed for the transformation process.
Africa Lead II is a program dedicated to supporting and advancing agricultural transformation in Africa as proposed by the African Union Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program. Cet article présente les résultats clés tirés de l’analyse transversale de 13 expériences d’innovation agricole menées au Bénin, au Kenya et en Afrique du Sud. L’évaluation a utilisé un cadre analytique commun inspiré de l’approche systèmes d’innovation pour comprendre comment l’innovation a évolué au fil du temps via les interactions entre différents acteurs et sous l’effet d’éléments déclencheurs et moteurs internes et externes.
Une grande majorité des polyculteurs éleveurs de l’ouest du Burkina Faso ont un projet d’élevage familial (PEF) en tête. Cependant, plus de la moitié des projets ne démarrent même pas. Parmi ceux mis en place, d’importantes faiblesses sont observées au niveau de la gestion de l’alimentation du bétail, ce qui compromet leur rentabilité économique. Cet article présente une démarche de conception et d’accompagnement de projet d’élevage familial (Capef) conduit en partenariat entre le producteur et un conseiller.

El presente documento "Innovación Comercial en la Agricultura Familiar: necesidades de fortalecimiento y situación de la institucionalidad de apoyo en el Perú" se realizó bajo el marco del proyecto "Innovaciones institucionales para el apoyo a la gestión de procesos comerciales de la Agricultura Familiar y su vinculación con los mercados", cuyo objetivo principal es de mejorar las condiciones y posibilidades de acceso a los mercados de la agricultura familiar y la pequeña agroindustria local.
