The Livestock and Irrigation Value Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. The LIVES capacity development pillar seeks to strengthen innovation and the learning capacity of value chain actors and service providers to develop livestock and irrigation agriculture value chains. Using participatory processes to assess knowledge and skills gaps of value chain actors and service providers, it identifies capacity development interventions. This guide is developed by synthesizing successful field experiences within a project known as Improving Productivity & Market Success of Ethiopian Farmers Project or IPMS Project. The main purpose of the IPMS project was to test methods, approaches, and processes that can help transform Ethiopian smallholder agriculture from subsistence to a market‐oriented agriculture.
Wthin the context of ARD, capacity strengthening is seen as a process of continual development, as opposed to one-off training. It enhances interaction, builds trust and creates synergy between research institutions and public and private sector actors, smallholder farmers and development organizations. Strengthening the capacities of these different actors for collaboration enables them to address a whole range of activities, investments and policies, and take advantage of opportunities to make change happen.

El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar el aporte de las Escuelas de Campo (ECAS) al fortalecimiento de capacidades de productores ganaderos, específicamente en sus capitales humanos, utilizando la integración del Marco de Medios de Vida Sostenibles (MVS) y el Marco de Capitales de la Comunidad (MCC). Se identificaron cambios en los capitales de los productores influenciados por las ECAS usando métodos mixtos como entrevistas semi- estructuradas, grupos de discusión focal, observación sistemática de fincas y hogares.
Humanity is faced with the challenge of ensuring food security for all, while respecting the earth’s ecological boundaries. Organic agriculture makes a valuable contribution here. In Africa, certified organic farming is limited to just 0.2 percent of agricultural land – compared to all other continents, the smallest share worldwide. The potential for expanding organic agriculture is great, because it is economically viable in the long term, preserves human, animal and environmental health and conserves soil resources.
This paper aims to explore the new challenges encountered in the education of innovation and entrepreneurship in agricultural colleges and universities as well as the new perspectives and possibilities brought by the new agricultural construction for the education of innovation and entrepreneurship in agricultural colleges and universities. Based on the perspective of the construction of new agricultural science, schools need to integrate innovation and entrepreneurship education with all educational work in schools.
The core idea of the article is the existence of complicated array of deterrent factors that influences innovation activity of agriculture organizations, and subjective, psychological factors among those factors as well. The main goal of this work is to assess the top management and proprietors’ of AIC enterprises readiness to implement the innovations. As a research’ working hypothesis used the decisive role of human factor in answering the question whether to innovate or not.
