This paper addresses this gap by examining the nature of disruption to farm advisors from data-driven smart farming and identifies the challenges and opportunities. The authors aim to better theorize smart farming innovation by examining the advisory role to provide insights for technology developers, and policy directions for governments in relation to supporting uptake of farming innovations. To achieve this aim they ask: how are farmers and advisors interacting with data-driven smart farming, and what are the implications for farm advisor capability and roles in a future where farmers use more data-driven smart farming? In this paper, is proposed propose a conceptual framework before analyzing the experiences of farmers and advisors in the context of three data-driven smart farming case studies in Australia and NZ. In the discussion, we reflect on potential changes in advisory services needed to enable farmers to capture greater value from the use of data-driven smart farming
