This paper presents the processes, general guidelines lessons and experiences pertaining to “good practices” for organizing and forming Agricultural Innovation Platforms in the Lake Kivu Pilot Learning Site, covering three countries (Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo) with widely differing social political environments to address agricultural development challenges.

The Sourcebook is the outcome of joint planning, continued interest in gender and agriculture, and concerted efforts by the World Bank, FAO, and IFAD. This report make an analysis of Sorghum value chain in Uganda. Based on that, innovation opportunities in Uganda that can influence expansion of sorghum Value Chain and enhance socio-economic gains of all the actors are identified. Some of the identified opportunities among others include increasing farm level production through enacting supportive policy and providing support to organizations in seed production and distribution, introduction of small scale sorghum processing, and increasing their capacity as well as that of the existing processing entities
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has developed a web-based Rift Valley fever (RVF) Early Warning Decision Support Tool (RVF DST), which integrates near real-time RVF risk maps with geospatial data, historical and current RVF disease events from EMPRES Global Animal Disease Information System (EMPRES-i) and expert knowledge on RVF eco-epidemiology.
Bien que le nombre de personnes vivant au-dessous du seuil de pauvreté en Ouganda ait diminué de moitié cette dernière décennie, le taux de malnutrition a augmenté de 27 à 30 pour cent. Au cours de la même période, la consommation alimentaire journalière par habitant a reculé de 9,5 pour cent, ce qui représente une baisse des apports énergétiques alimentaires. Plusieurs raisons expliquent cette situation, mais selon le Plan d’action pour la nutrition de l’Ouganda (2011-2016) le manque de capacités est l’un des cinq principaux facteurs à l’origine de la persistance de la malnutrition.
