The Cold Chain Bangladesh Alliance (CCBA) aims to increase the availability, access, and use of domestically‐produced and nutritious foods in an effort to sustainably reduce poverty and hunger.
This review aims to introduce the institutional and policy oriented literature on technological innovation into the context of post harvest engineering. The focus is how rigorous quality and food safety standards in cross-border agricultural and horticultural trade influence technological change up stream in the agri-food chain. The review presents a selection of literature that considers technological innovation as a process, with a specific focus on the enabling and constraining institutional conditions found in developing countries.
Understanding barriers to market access for smallholder farmers and their marketing efficiency when they participate in agricultural value chains is key to unlocking the market potential and overcoming market failures. This study aimed at determining factors limiting farmers’ market access, the break-even point for undertaking postharvest value addition activities by the farmers, and the market efficiency of the Uganda potato market chains in which the smallholder farmers are participating.
The “ONE WORLD – No Hunger” Initiative (SEWOH) by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is part of the G7 goal to free 500 million people from hunger and malnourishment by 2030. SEWOH intends to contribute significantly to reducing poverty and hunger in developing countries in general and Cameroon in particular. The Cameroonian project is part of the framework of the global project – “Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector” (ProCISA).
This paper analyzes the status of Pakistan’s agriculture in the world and quantifies the potential of improving productivity and quality of value chain at its different nodes. A great potential of expansion in the value chain of large number of agricultural commodities produced in Pakistan are observed. Just bringing the average crop yield levels at par to the world average yield can generate over US$11 billion additional revenues to the producers. Despite lower yield, majority of commodities have lower prices compared to the world average prices at the farmgate.
Des facteurs structurels expliquent l’insécurité alimentaire en éthiopie : forte croissance démographique, faible productivité des parcelles agricoles, cultures majoritairement pluviales, réseau de communication quasi inexistant, etc. Malgré des moyens et des marges de productivité importants, les politiques agricoles n’ont pas permis de réduire les besoins en aide alimentaire de la population. This work was presented by the Director General of Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China about the chinese experience in enhance the access of the rural areas to the internet and e-commerce. The presentation is divided in three parts: 1) Development and changes in China's agriculture and rural areas; 2) China's main approach to promoting e-agriculture and e-village; 3) Experience in e-agriculture and e-village of China.
