This report describes the 2012 NAIS Assessment was piloted in 4 countries: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire, open-ended interview questions, and data mining of secondary sources. A team led by a national coordinator took charge of data collection from various partner organizations in each country.
The organization of the Nutrition Innovation Labs represents a novel model for focusing U.S.- supported research on food and nutrition issues in developing countries. Their aims are to discover how policy and program interventions can most effectively achieve large-scale improvements in maternal and child nutrition, particularly by leveraging agriculture and build human and institutional capacity for applied policy analysis, research and program implementation.
Social media (SM) such as Twitter and Facebook are new communication tools for rural communities, and SM has enabled the creation of rural social networks. Increased use by farmers of 'mobile digital devices' and better rural access to broadband services have enhanced so that SM is being used to support farming decisions. However, in depth studies on how SM is used for knowledge sharing amongst farmers and the role of rural professionals (e.g. advisors) in this space is an emergent field with limited literature.

The good performance of agricultural extension agents will have an impact on improving the performance of farmers to increase agricultural production.In Langkat Regency, the extension agent performance was not still optimal. Factors affecting the performance of the extension agent consist of internal and external factors.
Farmers Training Center (FTC)-based farmer training is an emerging extension strategy geared towards human capital development through need-based, hands-on practical training in order to facilitate agricultural transformation and rural livelihood improvement. Although FTCs were established and made functional in the Tigray National Regional State and Alamata Woreda no systematic assessment of the relevance and effectiveness of the training were made.

This report explores the role of rural networks in enhancing innovation processes, questioning the features of the agricultural/rural networks could enhance farmers’ ability to co-innovate in cooperation with other actors. The prospect of this investigation is also to provide interesting and significant experiences that constitute examples for the ‘European Innovation Partnership’ by increasing farmers’ capacities to create, test, implement and evaluate innovations in cooperation with other rural actors.
Este libro busca contribuir con la reflexión de aspectos críticos referentes a las estrategias de fortalecimiento de los sistemas para el desarrollo de capacidades y extensionismo que tienen como fin el desarrollo rural mexicano, se han abordado temas de alta relevancia, por medio de la sistematización y el análisis institucional de casos representativos de las estrategias, programas y proyectos que son promovidos por las instituciones públicas federales, estatales o municipales, así como iniciativas de actores sociales.
El valor de la producción agroalimentaria del estado de Puebla ocupa el sexto lugar a nivel nacional. Sin embargo, los beneficios para los productores de hortalizas de la región no han sido los esperados en gran medida debido al intermediarismo y ausencia de análisis relacionados a la cadena de valor, logística y cadena de suministro. El presente estudio recopiló la información de algunos agentes que participan en la cadena de valor de la producción- comercialización de hortalizas en cuatro municipios del Distrito de Desarrollo Rural de Tecamachalco, Puebla, México.
