The MAF of Timor-Leste launched a transformative initiative to enhance agricultural productivity and planning through the Sustainable Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project (SAPIP). Supported by a USD 21 million grant from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), the project aimed to improve smallholder farmers' productivity.
Agrifood systems generate significant benefits to society, including the food that nourishes us and jobs and livelihoods for over a billion people. However, their negative impacts due to unsustainable business-as-usual activities and practices are contributing to climate change, natural resource degradation and the unaffordability of healthy diets.
This year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) falls at a time where women across the globe are being disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fisheries and aquaculture sectors have been particularly affected by the crisis. Although the data are limited, a significant amount of the workforce in these sectors is comprised of women. Most women carry out non-vessel based activities, including gleaning, processing and marketing, but the number of women in leadership positions is low.
Fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs. Every year, more than 100 000 fishers die at work, according to estimates. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is enabling fishers to be safer while at sea in various ways, including with technically innovative boat designs and training initiatives. FAO has developed a collection of fishing vessel plans called the FAO Fishing Vessel Design Database. One of its aims is to increase safety at sea through improving vessel design, construction, seaworthiness, and safety.
This policy brief summarizes the background, evidence and insights from the innovative governance modelling and analysis work developed in Indonesia under the "Governance Innovation for Sustainable Development of Food Systems” subprogramme. In addition, the brief offers guiding points and recommendations to support Indonesia's agrifood systems transformation efforts.The FVC subprogramme was carried out between 2020 and 2023 with funds from FAO's Flexible Voluntary Contribution (FVC).
Ce guide sur le suivi, l'évaluation et l'apprentissage a été préparé dans le cadre du projet Développement des capacités pour les systèmes d'innovation agricole (CDAIS), un partenariat mondial (Agrinatura, FAO et huit pays pilotes) qui vise à renforcer la capacité des pays et des principaux acteurs à innover dans des domaines complexes systèmes agricoles, améliorant ainsi les conditions de vie en milieu rural. Le CDAIS utilise une approche de cycle d'apprentissage continu pour soutenir les systèmes nationaux d'innovation agricole dans huit pays d'Afrique, d'Asie et d'Amérique centrale.
The institutional and policy framework supporting the development of the forestry sector in Cambodia plays a vital role in ensuring a coherent approach to addressing the overarching development goals of the sector, as defined in the National Protected Area Strategic Management Plan 2016-2030, the National Green Growth Roadmap and the National Forestry Programme 2010-2029. In order to achieve these goals, however, more efforts are needed.
The project emerged as a practical example of how digital innovation can be an effective tool to tackle poverty and hunger in rural areas. Governments in the region have adopted digital solutions that directly contribute to advancing SDGs 1 and 2. For example, they have created a digital innovations catalogue to identify replicable and scalable solutions that can significantly impact poverty and hunger reduction in the region.
Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo consolidar y capacitar a un grupo de Facilitadores Nacionales de Innovación, conformado por representantes de diferentes instituciones del Gobierno de El Salvador, la Academia, sociedad civil y organizaciones de productores, para entender y acompañar los procesos de innovación (identificación de necesidades, elaboración de planes de acción para responder mediante el desarrollo de capacidades funcionales) tendientes a reducir la pobreza, la inseguridad alimentaria e incrementar la competitividad de la producción y la conservación de los recursos naturales
Este documento surge de un diagnóstico rápido de los sistemas de innovación agropecuaria en Centroamérica y Panamá que se llevó a cabo en el marco del Programa Regional de Investigación e Innovación por Cadenas de Valor Agrícola (PRIICA). Los objetivos del estudio eran identificar qué factores limitan la adopción de la oferta tecnológica en la región y proponer un conjunto de buenas prácticas de extensión y transferencia agrícola que contribuyan a mejorar esta situación.
