Desde el punto de vista metodológico se escogió el enfoque sistémico, el método de análisis fue el descriptivo cualitativo y la identificación de información se hizo de fuentes secundarias y primarias mediante observación y entrevistas a extensionistas y caficultores cuyas fincas tuviesen lotes de café tradicional y tecnificado.

El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo mostrar las experiencias en el cultivo del arroz en el mundo, así como de varias regiones de Cuba, donde las ferias de diversidad constituyeron la mejor forma de dar acceso rápido y eficiente a las variedades, con la participación de los productores de arroz no especializado. El fitomejoramiento participativo (FP) es un enfoque relativamente nuevo para el desarrollo del germoplasma, que incluye el mejoramiento de plantas y la selección varietal participativa (SVP).
Con el fin de brindar experiencias, el presente trabajo se desarrolló en fincas de campesinos de La Palma, Pinar del Río, y Urbano Noris, Holguín, dos localidades fuertemente afectadas por la sequía y salinidad en nuestro país. En ambas comunidades, los productores e investigadores han experimentado diferentes alternativas, las cuales transcurren desde sistemas simples para la captura de agua de lluvia hasta la introducción de diversidad en distintos cultivos y nuevas variedades tolerantes a las condiciones locales.
